N9RV presenting Indy 500 checkered flag and shot glass to OH2HXT, our host

Hello guys,
Got back late last night from OH. Definitely a fun time. For my first DX trip it was amazingly smooth. The OH guys were incredibly organized and the whole event ran like a clock. Working a contest from EU is definitely a different experience! The Russians are very, very loud. And the W's sound like OH's do back here. Conditions were much better than we expected, and we had some nice openings to the states. With the 2 radio format, we heard many more guys (on the second radio) than we worked. WB9Z and W9RE are very loud on 20m over there! It was also really neat to hear the loud midwest and even west coast coming in over the pole. We worked very hard to put up a good score, but our multipler skills are obviously lacking. We had a competitive Q total, but with a mult that was down 70-100 from the others we weren't really in the running. The WRTC format definitely teaches you humility. I guess the flip side of this experience is that if we can figure out how to start working more mults then maybe we can improve. Unfortunately, my plans to record the contest were dashed when it became apparent that the switching power supply in my laptop caused QRN of about s5. So I can't send you all .wav files of your sigs, sorry. On behalf of my teammate K3LR and myself, I'd just like to say thanks to SMC for your support. It was an honor to represent the club, W9-land, and the USA. It is going to take a while for my feet to come down to the ground after this!

NT1N Teams Up With AG9A

I am proud to announce that Mark Obermann, AG9A, will be my teammate at WRTC 2002 in Helsinki. Mark and I have wanted to do this for at least 20 years (OK, we talked about it before the first WRTC occurred) and we are really happy that our chance has arrived. 73, Dave, NT1N

I am proud that Dave has chosen me to be his partner for WRTC 2002.  I am also proud to represent the SMC and midwest in this event.  Dave and I have done a number of contests and dxpeditions together over the years and look forward to doing our best in Finland. Vy 73, Mark AG9A

N9RV Teams Up With K3LR

Pat Barkey, N9RV, will team up with Tim Duffy, K3LR.  Pat has been a part of Tim's multi-op contest operations for many years.  Pat and Tim competed together in WRTC 96 as W6A and finished in 19th place.
